Why PFOA-Free Cookware Matters for Your Family

PFOA was once a standard ingredient in non-stick coatings. Here is why we never use it — and why it matters.

PFOA, or perfluorooctanoic acid, was for decades a standard ingredient in the non-stick coatings used on pans around the world. It was cheap, effective, and gave cookware the effortless release every home cook wanted — but it was also a chemical that does not break down in the environment, earning the label of a forever chemical.

As studies linked PFOA exposure to a range of health concerns, regulators in Europe and the United States began phasing it out of consumer coatings. The switch was a turning point for the cookware industry, yet it also revealed something uncomfortable: the underlying family of chemicals, PFAS, remained in use in many other coatings and everyday products.

This is why being PFOA-free is only half the answer. A genuinely healthy pan is free of the entire PFAS family — no PTFE, no PFOA, no related substances. Our ceramic and Titan coatings are made from natural minerals and are certified free of PFAS, PTFE, lead and cadmium, so there is no coating chemistry left to wonder about when you cook for your children.

Choosing a pan should not require a chemistry degree. If a label has to reassure you one chemical at a time, ask whether the coating simply was never built on those chemicals in the first place. Cookware that is toxin-free by design, not by negotiation, is the only guarantee worth buying.
